Walking Away - "It" May Take Several of Attempts Or It's Not in the Cards to Happen

Image
"I tried to end it with him. But here I am back and hating him and hating myself for returning. The 'it' was never good. I knew that from the start." That's a common snippet in Tarot readings.  The frustration builds, along with self-hate, because the Walking Away we had planned doesn't last. The boomerang phenomenon isn't only in romantic relationships. On professional anonymous networks such as Fishbowl and Reddit there are the posts about making the decision to leave a job or assignment, frequently several times, and staying put. The reality is that it is difficult to leave a known. The essence of the Walking Away message is that you would be beginning a journey into the unknown. The positive mindset, though, is that you have the confidence and hope that you are Walking Towards. Not doing a random running away.  Each time you plan to Walk Away you are learning more about yourself. Eventually you may decide that the "you" you now understand bet

The Next Step in Universal Basic Income - Contemplating Living a Meaningful Life Without Work

Image
The praise for Universal Basic Income - those string-free stipends for people struggling financially - is focused on improving lifestyles for workers.  But sooner than many expect UBI will be providing total financial support for those for whom jobs no longer exist. That, of course, will entail re-socialization about the value of work, at least the way we tend to think of it. The traditional way, symbolized in the Tarot by the Seven of Pentacles, is jam-packed with messaging that hard work pays off. And not only in financial security. There is also the satisfaction of accomplishment. The image on the card is the farmer relishing the results from the seeds he had labored to plant. That way won't be available to everyone. Already I am encountering in Tarot readings the tough transitions the retired are experiencing. They only know the kind of achievement associated with a job or operating their own business. Initially most resist leaving that comfort zone and searching for other w

"God Bless the Child Who Has His Own" - Tough Lesson for University of Pennsylvania (many non-profits) Have to Learn During Middle East Conflict

One benefit from the mystical Tarot is the realization that, you bet, you have to take care of yourself. A major piece of that, even in this spiritual ether, is providing for your own financial support. Given that, you have the confidence and the power to walk away from whatever.  WALKING AWAY The Tarot even has an official Walking Away card. There is no softening, though. You are walking into the unknown. So, yes, take your time. Pause when overwhelmed. But keep the confidence that you have the ability to walk towards. HAVING THE FUNDING TO WALK TOWARDS The soul lyrics of Billie Holiday highlight that in the song "God Bless the Child." Essentially, it goes like this: Mama may have, Papa may have, But God bless the child who's got his own."  Victorian thought leader and novelist Virginia Woolf hammered the same meme in her essay for women "A Room of One's Own." The message was the need for females to have their independent source of income

Layoffs Described as "Taking Out the Trash" - But, What Can Happen After the Trash Is Taken Out ...

Image
In Tarot readings I veer clients away from betting that some form of karma will do in the supposed "bad guys." Essentially I counsel to leave that task to the universe or spirit or angels and not waste energy with such a preoccupation. However, it is likely that there are any number of unemployed lawyers who are calling on karma today to set straight a poster on Fishbowl Big Law: "I am so tired of people at my firm (Ropes) complaining about 'layoffs' and 'stealths' on Fishbowl and even in real life. In my opinion, we took out the trash." Readers of the post have already jumped in with criticism and dark wishes for the poster. However, it is equally arrogant to judge. Even the official legal system often does that badly, as we see with all the turn-overs of verdicts.  It isn't toxic positivity to shift attention to what can be praised - and leveraged as a model. In "This Is How You Grow After Trauma," Olivia Remes details the utility

Recession Coming? Slowdown in Tarot Clients' Businesses Flags That Downturn Is Already Here

Image
There is that old adage in professional life: You learn the most from your clients. That applies to the art and mysticism of Tarot reading. Abruptly, clients are confiding to me that their enterprises have fallen off a cliff, both in the United States and Canada. That is especially the situation in personal services such as hairstyling. That confirms the predictions of the Wall Street players that the downturn will come in X or Y quarter. More accurately the feedback from clients indicates the recession has already taken a firm hold of many parts of the economy. What I recommend to business owners whose revenues are drying up: Grab other sources of income. I detail that. For example, Care is a platform to register in order to seek out gig caretaking assignments for the elderly, children and animals. Tips for food delivery can be lucrative. And there is always driving a la Uber.  Most don't want to hear that. They want to stay stuck in magical thinking that their financial distress

Psychics as the New Therapists - Allowing People to Listen to Themselves Talk

Image
Is formal psychotherapy too intrusive? That is, does it impose too much of the therapist on the process of the so-called "talk cure?" Maybe. That could be why, as the media reports, psychics are becoming the new therapists. The mysticism of the how we Tarot readers approach human suffering removes the old-line control of the therapist. We don't operate from a school of thought learned in an academic degree program. Instead the space is open to the mysteries of a life being lived.  As a result, those in a Tarot reading session can hear themselves talking. And then they can go on from there, developing their own unique solutions.  Another edge psychic services have, in contrast to conventional therapy, is that the process can be less expensive. Even with healthcare insurance the co-pay for therapy can be tough on a budget. In addition, those in pain don't have to opt for the 50-minute hour. They can "purchase" help in increments of 15 minutes.  Tarot Card Re

The Three of Cups - Breaking through the Terror to, Yes, Joy

Image
From the get-go, the 21st century has been shaped by fear.  With a possible WW3 and a scarcity of necessities ranging from energy to food looming the ethos has hardened into terror. So? This has been the emotional rollercoaster mankind has been on since Adam and Eve became homeless. The Three of Cups Card in the Tarot interjects the message that external realities and the capacity for inner joy are not mutually exclusive.  During The Great Depression my immigrant grandparents created a joyful household for their eight children. Sure, they were scared. But that didn't prevent them from taking such pleasure in having their children around them. That was in a cold-water third floor three-bedroom tenement in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey. My mother and her siblings had such happy memories of 227 Bay Street. Part of your joy can come from reaching out and helping someone in distress. My grandparents opened that cramped housing to their relatives who had just gotten off the boat from

Tarot Fool Card: Message That You Might Be Taking a Risk (and it could be a big one)

Image
Medical doctors, lawyers, entertainers, and students at ivy league universities report being stunned: They made public their opinions about the military conflict between Israel and Hamas - and lost career momtentum or even jobs. The odd thing about that - and it is the message of the Fool Card in the Tarot - is that they seemed to be unaware that they were taking a risk and that in this time of high geopolitical tensions it was a major one. This morning, for example, the New York Post reports: "Iran’s foreign minister warned in an ominous tweet Wednesday morning that time is 'running out' for Israel following an  attack on a hospital in Gaza , as experts grow concerned about a potential third world war." With WW3 possible worldwide people are on edge. If you are a reasonable human being you develop plenty of caution in what you say. Therefore, there is little empathy for those who tumbled into the professional abyss after making statements society assessed as, well,

Healing Relationships: If You Spot It, You Got It

Image
Relationships, ranging from romantic to professional, dominate Tarot reading sessions.  Most of human beings in upheaval about the connections in their lives usually learn this fundamental: If you can spot it - and become obsessive about it - you probably got it. That is, you are experiencing a part of yourself that you don't like. Only perhaps an exaggerated version of it. The classic example is resentment about the micromanaging superior or the advice-giving intimate partner. Odds are that you yourself tend to be overbearing. The way to heal the relationship is to focus on reducing this trait in yourself. First own it, then figure out how to let it go. Usually it's embedded deep into a comfort zone. If you are not dishing out mandates you don't feel whole. Recovery programs for addictions, be it codependency, food or alcohol, frequently hammer this fundamental of If You Spot It, You Got It. For instance, the 10th Step in AA's 12 Steps directs you to yourself if you

Happiness - Search for It Outside the Relationship

Image
One reality is that many people won't or can't change. Another is that divorce is expensive and can derail financial security. So, more and more in relationships find that they have to accept what-is. But that doesn't mean unhappiness.  What I tutor in Tarot readings is this: Expand your reach for happiness beyond relationships, romantic as well as platonic. Humans are complex entities with a shadow side. Read mystical psychologist Carl Jung on that. No, it's not wise to invest one's happiness primarily in other human beings. Avoid doing that and all the relationships are bound to improve.  After three decades of marriage a client finally accepted that her spouse was incapable to supplying the majority of her needs. Neither wanted a divorce.  She is currently doing the hard work of experimenting with sources of joy and satisfaction in other parts of her life. There have been lots of try-outs that didn't pan out but she is not giving up. What has in itself brou

People Need Time - Retail Won't Allow That to Happen

Image
Over and over again in Tarot readings people tell me that they don't have time to reflect, to process, to heal. Retail is making that worse in rushing the seasons. It's impossible to savor the old-fashioned pleasure as a season begins to unfold a bit by a bit. Roman Catholics might remember the Advent festivities. Each day there was special messaging of inspiration and joy. Baby Jesus was on the way. Today I swung by a big box. What a shocker. It isn't even Halloween. Yet, aisle after aisle is stuffed with Christmas decorations. Those include both micro and full-sized trees. This also sucks out the wonderment of Christmas for children. Light a Candle, Look into the Flame - That's Meditation, for Such Troubled Times

Image
"The  Israel-Hamas clash  threatens to spark other bloody battles, meaning it's now a coin toss whether a world war breaks out that includes the US and China, [hedge fund genius] Ray Dalio has warned."  -  Insider,  October 13, 2023 Simultaneously JPMorgan Chase head  Jamie Dimon warns  that that the world "may be the most dangerous in decades." A boomer, I recall stories my grandparents told about the old country. The one my grandmother kept repeating was this: How the women in the village cried when news was that WW2 had broken out. They knew their sons would be pulled out to the front and might not be coming back.  Now the undercurrent in America is that same collective sadness. We might go to war and this time it could be the war that disappears not only the youth in towns but the whole human race. In my Tarot readings the surfacing distress is palpable, especially among those with children under-35 or husbands in the military. Some ask to learn how to med

Over: 30 Years of Therapy - In: Trying Out Psychic Healing

Image
"Some New York area residents are fed up with their therapists, ditching their shrinks for psychics who give them 'real' guidance instead." -  New York Post, October 10, 2023 A favorite among the psychic services they choose is The Tarot Card Reading. The usual "order" from them, in-person, by phone, or via chat, is: Give me a general reading from the Tarot cards. As with therapy, many Tarot clients need to just talk. Our society is becoming increasingly self-absorbed. No one is listening. Not even significant others.  When they "get it out" then they are ready for me to channel into their energy. That is direct. Unlike the experience of myriad psychotherapies we psychics don't operate from a rigid school of thought taught in an academic degree program. Instead we journey right into the subconscious. The result: efficient healing. Frequently we Tarot healers can accomplish in 30 minutes what might not even occur after 30 years of traditional t

Generative-AI Girlfriends/Boyfriends - As a Tarot Reader I Am Tempted to Recommend that Relationship Option (and not only for romance)

Image
In the Tarot The Lovers card graphically points to the core of the difficulty in establishing and nurturing romantic connections. That is, the inherent disconnect. Human beings, from the moment the umbilical cord is cut, are separate entities. From then on there is the struggle to connect with other members of the species. Usually there are a growing number of disconnects because human beings are complex and become more and more complex. As they live out their lives they integrate more and more variables. Getting fired? Of course that changes them and their lover will be forced to deal with shifts in the relationship. Can the connection weather that crisis? Remaining together demands change, on both sides. Not easy. Many humans simply can't keep up with the adjusting required in relationships. One or both partners change. The world changes. The economy changes. Pile on aging. Gain weight? Horrors, that can trigger riptides of tension undercurrents. That's why humans con

Your Pain Today Won't Be the Same Tomorrow - Actually, It Could Go Away

The reassuring messaging of the Tarot (as well as Buddhism) is that everything changes. The good doesn't hold. The bad doesn't either. What seems like limbo will also shift into something else. So, what you're feeling and facing today could mutate into something better or worse. If the latter, most human beings in crisis develop magical new coping skills - as well as insight. That's exactly why some modes of spiritual treatment see hope in a person's reaching a bottom.  Tarot Card Reader. Intuitive Career Coach. Spiritual Guide Don’t Give Up Before the Miracle. Spilled Milk - Who Says?

Image
The saying "spilled milk" came about at a time when milk was very valuable in nutrition. Therefore, to spill it represented what should demand serious notice. Unfortunately, that concept of spilled milk is embedded in our capitalistic culture. The noise in our heads and from society is about regret. Yes, you better cry over the spilled milk. You better never forget how you screwed up. You ought to fear you will do it again - and again. However, all that drama assumes that milk has been spilled. The takeaway is supposed to be that a serious mistake has been made and has to be atoned for.  Yet there's another take on all that. It's to treat all experience as worthwhile. In my former career - ghostwriting/speechwriting - I lived by the reality that everything in life provides "copy." The book I co-published about managing an early career - The Critical First Years of Your Professional Life - is based on my own and others' experiences, how the experts int
