Sure, You Perceive It This Way, But What about Getting Perspective ...

Your workplace is toxic.

Your workplace is a sweatshop.

Your workplace is dominated by nepo babies.

That's your perception and you are probably right. But a preoccupation with that raw cluster of undigested thought gets you nowhere, except miserable and blocked.

Instead, what about even a bit of perspective about the situation?

For example, right now you likely need the job. So, why make yourself more and more eaten up with turmoil by focusing on a much-less-than-perfect work setting?

Incidentally, no one is paying you for your critical analysis about the macro management issues at your employer. Also, the underbelly of discontent often finds its way to the surface.

The essence of the Tarot cards is that we have no secrets. Who we are is there in plain sight. What's so obvious is this: Positive people get unique access to the good things in life. Late US President Ronald Reagan, who had a difficult childhood, neutralized the bad by the genial perspective that, for instance, a barn full of manure had the potential of the presence of a pony. Reagan loved horses.

Another kind of perspective comes from making an inventory of how you are beefing up your career credentials by being employed there and how that can broaden your exit opportunities when you move on. On professional anonymous networks such as Reddit and Fishbowl, amidst the negativity, is posted the reality that being at such-and-such a consulting, public relations or law firm bumps your personal brand up to another level. So, the advice given on those networks is: Stick it out for as long as you need. Then proceed on your job search for the Next, from a position of strength.

Also, there is the growing meme what we are our thoughts. Cognitive therapists, focusing on that, are being unusually successful in resets.

In a SuperLawyers interview the chair of law firm Paul, Weiss Brad Karp shares that his approach is to assume, no matter what the client's legal problem is, that there is an effective solution. Frequently Karp connects the dots on that by hammering at it late into the night.

Shift from the force field of complaint to an attitude of gratitude that you have a point of leverage. That is, you are in the game. More and more youth around the world are struggling to even get in.  They may never become part of a labor force. Once in, you have options. Even when knocked out of the box, as media star Megyn Kelly had been, you have a good shot at a comeback.

One more perspective takeaway: After you leave, don't default into regret - as in, "I put up with all that." Had you not put up with all that you might not have had access to enhanced opportunities. As in the financial world, it's about the ability to leverage.
