Becoming (and possibly remaining) Estranged from Parents - You Might No Longer Need "Permission"

 Traditional thinking in much of America had been family-first. Estrangement was to be avoided. When it did happen, reconciliation was the goal. After all, major holidays in America had the aura of family togetherness and deepening ties.

No surprise, those experiencing their parents as not-good-for-them usually had sought out "permission" to break the ties. Sometimes that had been on a temporary basis. But it could have turned out to be a permanent arrangement. 

In Tarot readings frequently the dynamic had been that the person was convinced that the relationship was and is toxic. But conventional mores had held them back from taking action. So, they had come for permission. They need the Tarot reader to walk them through that option. Then, for the reader to agree that might be a wise path.

However, that permission ritual might become less and less required to move on with a life. A major article in The New York Times features adults who are taking that once-radical step on their own.  In general, social networks such as TikTok have become platforms for sharing sagas of breaking-free from family. The subject is out there, not experienced within as a dark secret source of turmoil. 

In addition, the article looks into the work of licensed social worker and therapist Patrick Teahan. His mission is to empower human beings suffering from negative relationships with parents to cut the cord - and, perhaps not aim for reconciliation. On his website is the Toxic Family Test. 

Yesterday at Strega spirtual center, based in Sierra Vista, Arizona, Tarot reader Ally Prefontaine conducted a workshop "Discover Mediumship." Of course so much of the contact between the two realms - this dimension and the one into which others have passed over - involves family. 

During the workshop Prefontaine and several others 1) Admitted estrangement from parents and 2) Had no intention of working toward any type of reconciliation. Apparently they are aligned with the current memes erasing any sacredness about family ties.  A "mother" was even referred to as a mere "egg donor."

The Tarot reader I am salutes this letting go of family bonds that are destructive as spiritual, emotional and even physical protection. It is analogous to the protection Prefonaine warned us that we must use in communicating with those who have entered another realm.
