Gyms - The New Safe Place to Socialize + Platform for Less-Pressured (and more effective) Networking

The Wall Street Journal documents that gyms have evolved into a setting for developing new friendships.

For many of us in the post-religion era the gym seems to have become a safe wholesome place to connect. In my Tarot readings I recommend that those tormented by the feeling of not belonging join a gym and become a "regular." The socializing goal can be accelerated when classes such as in hot yoga or boxing are taken.

In addition, though, once those working out become known entities at the gym, conversation with the folks on next stationary bike or rowing machines, as is standard in society, will find its way to the question: What do you do? The reference is professional.

Because the pressure of normal networking contexts is off, presentation-of-self tends to be more authentic - and therefore more engaging. Bonds are formed.

For example, in the JCC gym in Youngstown, Ohio I developed new business for the Tarot readings I do for hosts of house parties.

Now that I have relocated to Sierra Vista, Arizona and am settling in, the issue at the Buena Vista Fitness Center is emerging: Who is this new person and how does she make her living.

Career success can follow, easily. In the Tarot the card for building wealth is the Ace of Pentacles. Pentacles symbolize business, professional life, financial security and more.

Of course, there is the option of creating a home-gym. However, from what clients from my Tarot reading practice tell me that only reinforces the feeling of not-being-a-part of. The rub is that it is difficult to sell used work-out equipment. So, the tip is: Make the effort to embed going to the gym as a must-do. Soon enough that ritual becomes a predictable source of joy. You not only meet people, you feel better. There is that work-out sense of inner balance.
