Psychics - What Business Are We Really In?

Way back in the 20th century a very smart marketing expert at Harvard Business School - Ted Levitt - told industries this: You have to ask what business you are really in. Had the railroads done that and came up with the broad definition - transportation - it might not have gone into decline. It could have begun acquiring airlines, car companies and more.

Today, psychics have to do the same thing if we want to seize the current opportunity is our category of work. There is increased interest in what value we can create for humanity. For example, in Manhattan, it is reported, psychics have become the new therapists. Instead of operating from an academically hardened school of thought we head right into the collective and individual unconsciousness. That "efficiency" makes the service more affordable than therapy. And faster at solving problems.

Right now, through my sideline of communications coach, I am assisting brandname psychics to define their selling proposition. What value are they creating and how do they deliver that better than others?

For one, the function is to assist human beings with transitions. So many cards in the Tarot are about the challenge of change.

For example, The Tower captures the pain of disruption.

In my own introspection about my role as a Tarot reader the value I create is to release the suffering from the "oughts." That is, limiting beliefs. Most of those date back to the 20th century. They apply to everything from how to make a good living to expectations about intimacy.

My business is to liberate, then help the assembly of the new pieces into what will be effective today. Meanwhile, all of us can restart our day at any time and as many times as needed.
