Trying to Sort It Out: Yes, Generative AI Can Provide Tarot Readings
"I repurposed the article I wrote for you on X."
If I tell a communications client that about content I had created for them, come on, there will be a blank stare.
X, the new name Elon Musk conjured up for iconic Twitter, might be fascinating. But, as yet and maybe never does it have any association with a social network. So, I will have to explain to the client that X is really the "old Twitter."
Buzz is out there that Musk chose to rename Twitter X because he wants to leverage it into a fintech payment platform and more. Yes, X could help do that. I would conduct financial transactional business with X. Not Twitter.
But, as LinkedIn News makes clear 15 years of brand value can go poof. In essence, when it comes to branding Musk has to "start from scratch." That will require lots of heavy lifting to acquire brand recognition. Lots of money too.
It also entails risk. Business operates to manage risk carefully.
When architect of law firm Dentons' global strategy Joe Andrew stepped down from that particular position the job classification was eliminated and he returned to being a partner. Both decisions gave his brand presence continuity.
At law firm Paul Weiss long-term chairperson Brad Karp sustained the branding when his contract was renewed last May. Karp is Paul Weiss.
Chevron waived the mandatory retirement age for CEO Mike Wirth to ensure, yes, continuity.
It is a volatile time for Big Law, Big Oil and more. It is smart to not pile on brand risk on the top of all the other challenges.
However, Musk could be onto something big. The era of "social," through the medium of social networks, could be on the way to over. There has been, for example, a decline in going to social media for news.
Also generative AI is a wild card. It could result in a type of walled garden. Instead of going out there to an app like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or even TikTok as well as professional anonymous networks such as Reddit and Blind, we will remain in generative AI. There we will drill down for data and perspective. The social aspect of generative AI is that it can provide a feeling of being a part of, companionship, psychotherapy and Tarot readings.
Already, as we know, Google search is at risk for becoming yesterday. For a recent article for a retail publication I did an experiment. That was comparing what search and what ChatGPT came up with for background information and insight. The latter got to the point more efficiently. Time is money and ChatGPT provides the edge of extreme speed.
So, Musk could be proactive in transforming a social network platform into a multi-dimensional tool for facilitating a broad range of businesses. Obviously, social is becoming a low-growth category.
Musk's antics distract from his brilliance. So did Steve Jobs’ for a while. Entrepreneurs out to find opportunity should deconstruct what could be Musk’s strategy for what used to be Twitter.
Meanwhile we have to explain to clients how they should allocate their resources for promotion. Is social delivering less impact for more funds.
