Valentine's Day 2023 - Tarot's The Lovers Card and Opportunity to Break Generational Cycles of Dysfunction

" ... a lot of us, at least until we know different, choose lovers based on learned relationship dynamics." - Chapter "The Lovers" in 2021 book TAROT FOR CHANGE, By Jessica Dore

The intensity of romance, especially the inherent pain, can open us to look at how we approach relationships. Most, if not all of that, circles back to what went down in our family of origin. You bet, we bring that into how we think and behave in the close relationships we form.

That kind of analysis can provide the insight to unlearn dysfunctional patterns. For example, when hurt, our families might have withdrawn into spiteful silence. Of course, that poisons the connections and can harden into lingering resentments. After being disappointed by my father one Christmas eve, my mother took refuge in her usual: not talking. A pall was thrown over the holiday.

In contrast, we can make it our mission to talk out the pain.

The best Valentine's Day gift to those we treasure is to be willing to change at least one generational pattern. That could be the inability to be there. We are preoccupied with analzying our soulmate. We miss out on directly experiencing the moments of joy this special day brings.

Takeaway: We can unlearn the family relationship dynamics.
