Tarot's Wheel of Fortune Card Is Coming Up A Lot

"You were doing something the old way because the old way let you avoid things that scared you." - From Chapter "Wheel of Fortune" in 2021 book TAROT FOR CHANGE by Jessica Dore

Anxiety about everything is what we are experiencing. So, it's predictable that the Wheel of Fortune card is popping up so often in Tarot readings.

The message of that major arcana card is two-fold:

  • Change is inevitable, whether you welcome it or not.

  • You have no choice but to go along with it. Not going along with it means not managing the process. It manages you, without your input.

The wrench in the works is usually fear. We are scared to let go of what we know, what we do, and how we do it.

How to shake off the terrors?

The first step is to let go of the illusion of certainty. It's never there. What we assume is a form of certainty - our present MO - is really just reviewing the past. The past is in a cement block of time that we can look over and assume it contains universal lessons.

There is the Zen mantra: Clear Thinking, Don't Know.

Ironically letting go of the promise of certainty can improve outcomes. At OpenAI, which produced ChatGPT, the founders were not at all sure the venture would pan out. At failed Theranos, founder Elizabeth Holmes seemed convinced of success. She is waiting to start an 11-year sentence for fraud and more.
