ChatGPT - Will That Be the End of the Sacredness of Language?

Words are sacred. At least some of them.

That's what late crooner Leonard Cohen is quoted as saying in the 2022 documentary "Hallelujah.” His background is Jewish culture. In that way of interpreting human existence, language is sacred. The name of the divine being was not allowed to be uttered, for example.

But what will happen to the ethos of sacredness now that the OpenAI’s ChatGPT will be taking over text? It is predicted that by 2025 it will generate 90% of online content.

However, the good news in this angst about words is that there are still safe harbors for language to be approached as what should be treated with reverence.

Among them, of course, are religions and spiritual centers. In addition, the Tarot, which The New York Times salutes as a mystical tool for self-awareness, comes from a tradition of the non-worldly. Its mode of messaging is transcendental. You can introduce yourself to that linguistic system by reading “Tarot for Change,” by Jessica Dore.

Meanwhile, there is that Zen mantra: Clear Thinking/Don’t Know. None of us knows the impacts of chatbots on the human institution of language. Could it be reduced to the mundane? Of course.
