All That Trouble - Fixing It May Require an Inside Job

"There is so much trouble in work."

That's what a middle-aged advertising executive blurted out when he introduced himself to me for a Tarot reading.

Sure, advertising, especially digital, has been hit hard by cutbacks in spending by the usual suspects. But where there is so much trouble there is usually something spiritually off within that person.

The term for the connection between what's going on externally and what's the state of being internally is Synchronicity

Student of Sigmund Freud who broke away from those teachings - Carl Jung - coined that term. When treating patients in emotional distress Jung observed that their lives typically were in disorder. That is, human beings project what is going on inside them onto the world. Of course, in the process people can be harmed. So can the workplace. Interestingly, so could pets, who are psychic.

Fixing the external mess begins with healing the insides. That is deep inner work. A Tarot card for that is the Eight of Cups. That's known as the Walking Away card. What you could need to walk away from are outdated mindsets. You are convinced that the way to create ads is to follow A, C, and D formulas. Owners of the ad agency don't agree. Nor do clients. And consumers aren't buying.

Dropping that rigid thinking is the beginning of the restoring your brand at that agency. And such resistance to the world as it is could be rooted in insecurity. The Tarot digs down to the roots of why you might feel less-than.

A useful read is "Tarot for Change" by Jessica Dore. Clients who have absorbed that book have saved their lives.
