Post-Midterms: Sure, Ask Us Boomers How It Was with Watergate and More

The headline in the influential FT reads:

"Nixonmaxxing: the strange revival of America’s disgraced president"

The legacy of Richard Nixon is being restored. Meanwhile, come the day after the midterms, another GOP US President could tumble into the kind of reputation collapse as happened with Watergate and Nixon's stepping down.

Lucky for you. So many of us Boomers, who lived day-by-day through such an upheaval, are eager to share how it was, what you might expect and what timeframe will it take for the new normal to solidify. About the latter, business for my tarot-reading/intuitive coaching practices already is increasing in demand.

Here's what I see now.

This time around there won't be a rush to journalism school, trying to be the next Bernstein-Woodward. Journalism isn't the path for the most earnest/best and brightest to follow anymore. Hasn't been for a while. Haven't you been reading postings on Reddit about all the unemployed/underemployed new journalism graduates and even seasoned reporters laid off by legacy media.

Nor, hopefully, will there another surge in enrollment in law school. What Paul, Weiss partner Brad Karp projected in Lawyer Monthly in 2025 has become a reality: AI is cutting associate hriing. With certain practices mutating into commodities, partners also are on the way out.

Get it. Claude owns the territory. Law-firm lawyers who are my clients confide that, essentially, they eventually will be toast. Meanwhile, though, we can celebrate the memory of Archibold Cox, et al.

Oh, there will be rats. There always are. If you're not offed (and that will be reported as a suicide) you can have a future. John Dean has rebranded as an opinion-leader.

Some will find religion. Was Chuck Colson really transformed spiritually in prison? America is the land of pragmatism. So, who cares. The guy put together a noble future.

And, the possibility of a disgraced president? Recall that Richard Nixon ran into health problems. As a psychic I see those overtaking Donald Trump. His sense of a very special self shaken to the core, there could even be a premature death. The urban legend is that if you make it to 80, as has this US President, you could have 20 or more years ahead. However, catastrophic emotional events could cancel out all that supposedly extra time.

Trust in some institutions will return. The mantra back then was: The system worked. This time it could be: It isn't THAT bad.

But, don't count on the return of the university as a revered resource in society. Even without further targeting by the Trump administration and even if Apollo CEO Marc Rowan is distracted from his reform mission, there's no way back. That's around the world.

Alpha Gen is still opting for the college experience but that could be the last generation. Globally. The glut of college graduates in China is so severe that for the unemployed there has been established the structure of  "pretend jobs." In the US I have already coached lawyers who lost their big jobs and continue to board Metro North and simulate going to the job. So much for the future of knowledge work.

As the nation struggles to rebuild after the midterms, I don't "see" the kind of "Wizard of Oz" Munchkin euphoria when community was saved. Instead, there will be an exhale of relief. The Wheel of Fortune could resume heading in the right direction. Or so we assume. Humans need hope in the concept of progress.

You deserve success, deep connections and inner peace.
