In the Presence of Insanity: The Hush Overtakes "You Can See Everything"



People usually don't come for a psychic reading to gush about how great things are going. No, typically they're in crisis. They talk fast and loud.

The exception is when the issue is insanity. That category of deviation from norms is way beyond what we think of as "mental illness." You could only know what it is if you've been there when it manifests itself. And clients describe the it slowly and in hushed tones. 

That's the ambiance in parts of the Elizabeth Holmes' documentary by Nathan Fiedler "You Can See Everything." It's palpable. Take in Holmes' parents. Observe also everything about actress Amanda Seyfried. She had portrayed Holmes in the film "The Dropout." I think I even catch snippets of the hush in Fielder's moments of silence. 

So, who seems insane? 

Of course, there's Holmes. She continually indicates that she's clueless about why she's on the way to prison for 11 years.

But there's also her partner and the father of her two children: Billy Evans. Seyfried explicitly refers to him as "batshit crazy." Probably none of how he perceives he's depicted sits well with Evans. The buzz is that he has contacted high-priced brandname lawyers in Hollywood.

I agree with Seyfried. My opinion counts. This is something I know quite a bit about.

There's the expression "Mad Russians." Poland, I found, is nearby in all that. From a Polish clan who brought their mis-wired genes to America, I have been part of the hush. 

Over and over in a variety of contexts I have been in the presence of raw insanity. Saying anything could "set off" the situation. No rocking the boat. Those were the days before pharma took an interest in psychosis. There was nothing to do about an insane member of the family.

In the tarot I interpret The Tower Card as capturing that force field. 


To today, I properly respect insanity. I am adept at silently steering clear. If I were Fiedler I might not have done that documentary. Evans has the resources for sustained litigation.

The Scenic Route and Other Pivots Away from Efficiency

  Several   years from now will the new cultural power structure be laughing hilariously at Meta, VW and more which boasted how efficient they are and how more efficient they would become.  Actually, even in its heyday - that is right now - the efficiency mandate seemed comically overwrought. The ethos reminds us of all those back-seat drivers who insisted Route A was the most efficient. Verboten was taking the scenic one that treated us to the serene snippets of cows and horses grazing, ghost towns and general stores.  In the tarot the anti-efficiency card is The Chariot. New York Metro Area in the 1950s: Growing Up Like Jeffrey Epstein (but we didn't become monsters)

  If you were young in the 1950s, lower middle class (or even lower) and based in the New York Metro area you probably grew up much like Jeffrey Epstein.  Today The New York Times captures the details of how it was for all of us back then.
