Financial Peace of Mind: Never a Number

 What do people want? 

The Talker research found that the majority yearned for the feeling of financial security. We usually label that "peace of mind." The opposite is confusion coming from not having control. In the tarot that's symbolized by the Nine of Wands.



But most won't find it. That's because they are approaching the dream in terms of numbers. If you have ever got to know the wealthy you get it that many experience profound insecurity about their funds. The joke is that there is no one more in angst with their financial situation than the rich. 

No surprise to us tarot readers, the Talker study also found that achieving peace of mind is an inside job. That comes from learning to regulate our thoughts. We develop the habit of coping with financial matters. 

Such coping is not much in evidence on professional anonymous networks Reddit, Fishbowl, Blind and Glassdoor.  Instead too many of the posters seem to bellow like wounded animals in the jungle. There's none of the acceptance of what is that provides the platform for doing what's smart to solve financial challenges. 

Why?

From years of tarot readings I have a hunch that the expectation is that help should be on the way. Maybe that goes back to being a child and protected, cared for. Then the child grows up. Financial security only comes when we realize we're responsible for that. Often that means doing disorienting career pivots. Relocating from a HCOL (high cost of living) area to a LCOL (low cost of living) one. Not shoring up relatives in need. Researching nutritional values so that you can eat healthy but pay less. 

That kind of self-management comes most easily when we have a sense of purpose. When I was pursuing a doctoral degree I experienced no money worries and I kept total debt at a mere $2,500. What I had to do came easily. I never felt "without."

Ohio's State Parks: Anyone from Any State Can Chill for Free, Not So in Michigan

  Lake Erie is the jewel of the Midwest. Yes, it even has waves. Some winters the waves freeze in motion. The designs are awesome.  Well, throughout Ohio you can gaze at Lake Erie, have a picnic or family celebration near it or swim in it. Sure, bring the dog.
