The Post-Epstein Files World: What Lessons Will Be Learned (at least for a while)
Eventually the fallout from the Epstein Files will end.
Soon enough we'll be in the Post-Epstein File era. Already clients for tarot readings are asking me what they should not be doing or doing now that we understand those complex patterns of manipulation in networking.
Well, there are lessons to be learned. Many of them are obvious. Some others will be made clear in time. Here are the top ones:
Vet more thoroughly those presenting themselves to loop in.
Do that and there will be fewer Bernie Madoffs and Jeffrey Epsteins. Hire a private investigator? Good idea and worthwhile investment.
Interpret favor-bombing as a red flag.
No, you're not that special. Way back in the early 1990s, public relations guru Bob Dilenschneider coined the term "Favor Bank" as the essence of networking. You make deposits in the Favor Bank and don't overdo the withdrawals. Well, if any applicant to the group is way too generous with the favors for you, beware. Odd that prominent lawyer Kathy Ruemmler didn't pick up on this. Instead, she gushed and gushed about the bling, career help and more.
Use smoke signals for communications.
It was the emails which did in iconic leader Brad Karp, long term chair at Paul, Weiss. Tony Soprano knew to discuss business in the confidential setting of a doctor's office. And it was using the phone, which was tapped by law enforcement, which did in Gordon Caplan during CollegeAdmissionGate. And, even if you communicate in a private setting, pat down for a wire and check the area for bugs. Moreover, with all the cameras around, the odds are you will be caught on video meeting with so-and-so.
Stay in your own lane.
Did it make the players feel so important going beyond the scope of their functions to perform other tasks such as "connector?" You're not hired for human resources management. Also that imposes needless risk. Suppose who you're pulling for doesn't live up to expectations.
Of course, these lessons will be sticky and then not. Human beings are too clever by far. They will again seek an advantage in their own ways. Given hubris, they will probably be careless. Again, reputations will be ruined, careers will lose traction. That is symbolized in tarot cards by the Nine of Wands. The force field is shock, lack of confidence and inability to find a way back.
