Spare Parts - Andrew, Harry, Margaret and Maybe You

 Whether the system is simply rigid - like the British monarchy - or toxic - like too many families - what's created are "spare parts." That is, those human beings not critical to the stability, functioning,  revenues or the branding. Very early those spare parts get the message that they aren't needed. Don't quite belong. 

So it was predictable that spare Andrew would walk on the wild side, Harry would bolt to another culture and Margaret would embrace the global cool of the jet set. Maybe compassion is due, along with accountability in the system which allowed this to be standard. Anne was among the few who found a way around that fate.

Such a state of being lost with no one seeming to look to find you is depicted in the tarot by the Nine of Wands.


Recently I attended a lecture by an entrepreneur. Back when they were an addict. They ascribed that descent into compulsive whatevers to not being a real presence in a family of three children. Along with their younger sister, they were invisible. The visible one was an older sister. She was prepared for college. For a marriage to a "catch" in the community. For home ownership. 

In tarot readings I guide those who were born into a spare-part system to recognize that they are a real human being. Usually that starts with getting it that they have a right (actually a duty) to survive. Most are inherently self-destructive. 

The next part is achievement. Any kind. It could be cultivating a blockbuster garden, prepping for a marathon or, yes, starting a business. That's why I rail against the addicted taking refuge in recovery modes which allow hanging around a sober house, without purpose. In my experience those who find purpose make it out of compulsiveness. It's a pull force.

The third is owning that success. Gush really does reinforce motivation to continue toward, not folding back into yourself. 12-step programs provide platforms for speaker talks. There are local and regional Ted Talks. Podcasts. TikTok. YouTube. 

The Epstein files confirmed how unfair systems are. So? Most human beings have to create your own opportunities. You might not become the president of a college or the head of a financial firm. Or maybe you will. Unless you recognize you have a place on planet earth you won't even try.

Aging - Holding On To Sense Of A Self

  The Wall Street Journal fingers retirement for the epidemic of a loss of self among the aging.  However, the process can kick in as soon as anyone senses they are no longer young. Gone is their youthful self. Denying aging, they don't invest in creating a new self - and continually bringing up to date that identity. By time there is a shift from a demanding career to part-time, freelance, entrepreneurial or no work there is no emotional, physical and spiritual platform to keep building on. We Are All Paul Weiss - And Now We Are Different

 Paul Weiss has been the tipping point.  The Executive Order by the current administration - the third issued - got to us. How vulnerable we all are to power. Forget the grade school lessons about what America is about. Forget how university deans caved during our counterculture protests.  Yes, and forget "rights"  as being sacred. Here's what we now know. The key driven in that EO was that a lawyer who had been a partner at Paul Weiss years ago - Mark Pomerantz - had landed on the US President's enemies list.
