Zohran Mamdani & The Debate: The JFK Moment

 Be there in the now. Almost infinite is that advice from career experts, public speaking trainers, relationship coaches and spiritual leaders. The results of the debate for the NYC major general election confirmed the power of that.

Zohran Mamdani was present. In some circles (that is, those not far right like the New York Post) he was assessed to be the winner. In contrast, sizes up influential Politico: 

" ... Cuomo ... appeared clinical and bloodless at times, presenting a recitation of facts that might work at a law school symposium, but not in a rapid-fire TV exchange. Long-shot Republican Sliwa ... at times came across as too mayoral and a bit staid" 

Of course, an added factor in Mamdani's reach is his age. We are in a John F. Kennedy Moment. Youth dominates. And that's happening beyond NYC. Axios captures that passing of the torch in Democratic politics: 

"Half a dozen House Democrats who are 70 or older were beaten by their younger primary rivals in fundraising between July and September, an Axios analysis has found."

The messaging transcends romance. It touches on the whole human experience. At its core is that we are separate, longing to connect. That's not easy. And factors, represented on the left by the serpent, operate to undermine that. 

Mamdani has managed to get on the same human wavelength with voters. Just like JFK had. 

In this era of anxiety more are folding into themselves. Everything from their body language to their casual and formal conversations are in a self-protective mode. Therefore, anyone who manages to be out there with the rest of humanity has a distinct advantage.

  The Wall Street Journal fingers retirement for the epidemic of a loss of self among the aging.  However, the process can kick in as soon as anyone senses they are no longer young. Gone is their youthful self. Denying aging, they don't invest in creating a new self - and continually bringing up to date that identity. We Are All Paul Weiss - And Now We Are Different

 Paul Weiss has been the tipping point.  The Executive Order by the current administration - the third issued - got to us. How vulnerable we all are to power. Forget the grade school lessons about what America is about. Forget how university deans caved during our counterculture protests.  Yes, and forget "rights"  as being sacred. Here's what we now know. The key driven in that EO was that a lawyer who had been a partner at Paul Weiss years ago - Mark Pomerantz - had landed on the US President's enemies list.
