Yes, Quotas

With some exceptions, there's a glut of every kind of worker. That includes tarot readers. 



It was the hard way that I came to see the wisdom of quotas. Last weekend I participated in a psychic fair. Unlike the ones I had previously been a part of there was no limit on the number of psychic vendors. 

You know the rest. 

What drives quotas is the common sense need to protect 1) the profession and 2) the ability of its member to get and grow their business. 

Before I accept an invitation to do readings at a fair I will ask how many others will be participating. If it's more than three, that's too many. Better that I pitch myself for private readings at my location and for house parties.

Aging - Holding On To Sense Of A Self

  The Wall Street Journal fingers retirement for the epidemic of a loss of self among the aging.  However, the process can kick in as soon as anyone senses they are no longer young. Gone is their youthful self. Denying aging, they don't invest in creating a new self - and continually bringing up to date that identity. By time there is a shift from a demanding career to part-time, freelance, entrepreneurial or no work there is no emotional, physical and spiritual platform to keep building on. In the Tarot there are myriad cards which salute moving on and breaking free from the past, even though there is so much uncertainty about the present and the future.  My favorite card for that is the Eight of Cups. We Are All Paul Weiss - And Now We Are Different

 Paul Weiss has been the tipping point.  The Executive Order by the current administration - the third issued - got to us. How vulnerable we all are to power. Forget the grade school lessons about what America is about. Forget how university deans caved during our counterculture protests.  Yes, and forget "rights"  as being sacred. Here's what we now know. The key driven in that EO was that a lawyer who had been a partner at Paul Weiss years ago - Mark Pomerantz - had landed on the US President's enemies list. Of course there were other things about Paul Weiss, such as its mission for diversity, which didn't sit well with MAGA ideology. But that stuff probably was small potatoes.
