Olivia Nuzzi and So Many Others: All for Love

 


In the tarot The Lovers card sends the message of danger. On the left, for example, is the snake. In addition there is the existential problem that humans are separate beings. There will always be points of disconnect. 

Simultaneously, though, there are the many symbols for the things that make us feel very good. Look at the signs of growth and abundance. And all too often, as in the alleged situation New York Magazine political reporter Olivia Nuzzi, feeling seems to dominate. Go for it.

NPR reports:

"The magazine said in a statement Thursday that Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi had violated its standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures by engaging in a relationship with a “former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign” while reporting on the election."

The speculation is this: Crossing of the line happened with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 

The comedies of William Shakespeare feature how love is blind. As such, it gets the myopic into many ridiculous contexts. Even if there is a happy ending the comedies lead into Shakespeare's tragedies. 

After King Edward VIII gave it all up for the woman he loved - Wallis Simpson - it was reported that he was restless and bored in a lifestyle without power, influence and purpose. He struggled to regain a position that mattered. That didn't happen.

Currently Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, after being fired from "Good Morning America" for their forbidden love in 2022, haven't been able to launch a comeback. Meanwhile they tinker with a podcast.

Daily in my tarot readers the distressed recount what they invested in love and received no adequate return. 



Despite all the evidence that abandoning yourself to love is risky that syndrome won't stop. It feels too good. And even in this rational era, in which we seek answers through data, we long to feel good. That happens even in the high-stakes reality of career. Nuzzi was just being so human. Given the opportunity we might do the same thing.
