Mother's Day 2024 - Celebrating The Unmothered



 In the Tarot the Empress card symbolizes what goes into that archetype Mother. The everything ranges from nurturing to the ability to pick up intuitively what's wrong. Without hands-on mothering, even the most primitive kind, no human being would survive.

And here we are celebrating in 2024 such a lifeline to being able to make it: Mother's Day. But,what about celebrating the opposite end of that continuum. That is, those who stayed alive (and thrived which we will come to) despite not having The Empress in their early lives. Those are The Unmothered. They had to become their own mother force field. 

According to recent research, there is much to celebrate. Psychology Today explains the benefits of such a difficult childhood. They include:

Accurate ability to size up situations, quickly identifying threats and risk.

Ability to navigate uncertainty.

Not getting stuck, at least for long. 

Incidentally, these traits make for an effective employee. There is that old joke that employers love to hire those with unhappy childhoods. They see the the pain in their eyes and know they will focus on the right stuff to get work done. 

In my Tarot readings The Unmothered tend to get it right away if course correction is needed. Although capable of love and closeness they can unattach rapidly from what is not panning out or is downright dangerous. 

No one wishes the horror of a neglectful childhood on anyone. But those who experienced it can adopt the mindset: Look at what I can take away from that mess.
