Tarot's Chariot Card - When You're Counting the Rest of Life in Single Digits

"On May 6th, I was 79."

That's what the man who had come for a Tarot reading told me.

He added: "I have four years 'left.'"

Although I didn't give him an exact number, I informed him that "time left" would extend beyond four years.

However, the probablility was high that he could be counting his life from here on in with single digits.

No coincidence, the first card we pulled was The Chariot. In it is a figure representing royalty. He is traveling in the vehicle without hands on the reins. The way I interpret The Chariot is this: following the universe. No need to struggle with the reins. That is, give up control to gain more control and increase the capacity to enjoy the ride.

Aging isn't for sissies is how the late Betty White summed up that process. Neither is preparing for the transition to another dimension through what we call "death." It takes courage and strength to go where those single-digit years are taking you. But when you do decisions become less fraught with angst. There can be a lightness of being. The quality of relationships deepens.

Embracing the implications of single digits can mean starting to live.
