The Lightness of Being
Let's not fret over labels like "bull market." All we know about the Dow Jones is that it is up and has been for a while.

Retirees and semiretired can rethink applying for part-time jobs at big boxes and fast foods. No, you don't have to wear those cute little caps.
In the Paradise Lost of lucrative, prestigious employment - professional services - what has emerged is a fresh model for HiHo HiHo, Off to Work We Go. Elite law firm Paul Weiss not only is recruiting for multiple corporate-groups openings. During the current Stalin-like purges in professional services, Paul Weiss hasn't laid off.
So impressive that has been that its chairperson Brad Karp could run for public office on the platform: I create jobs. And, protect them.
Another reason to pump the brakes on despair is this: Even though a middle-class lifestyle is fading, purchasing a car is still possible. That is important now that WFH is going kaput and it's mostly back to commuting to work.
Too many of those I coach for careers and guide through the Tarot are in high angst about their current car becoming not worth fixing and having to pony up in the 30s or 40s for a replacement.
There is a solution. That's the Smart Car, electric and gas. According to Kelley Blue Book, used they range from $5,453 (2010) to $15,514 (2019). Although they are no longer manufactured, there are still plenty of them around. You can search online for one locally (they are turned in as trade-ins) or to be shipped from another location. Parts are available through Mercedes Benz and service through any mechanic who has a small-enough rack to lift it up.
My Smart car, a 2013 two-seater roadster purchased for $7,200 cash, got me cross country twice, without incident. Also it has been an attention-magnet on the road. During summer there is the sun roof. All so European.
Another bright spot, documented in "Status Revolution" by Chuck Thompson, is that adopting a rescue rather than ordering a puppy pedigree is, well, so hot. Yes, even the big guys are being taken home. I bore witness to that at the Summit County Animal Control, Akron, Ohio.
During the three hours last Friday it took for 10-year-old Lucy (in the sky with diamonds, as I renamed her) and I to become family I observed so many open hearts, both human and four-legged. Those dogs you figure will never leave a shelter "sold" themselves well enough in the meet-and-greet room to close the deal. They pranced out, head high, and hopped into pickups and SUVs.
I am going to ask Karp at Paul Weiss to be Lucy's god parent. Maybe he can find her some work in his shop. I am a single pet parent so the kid has to pull her own weight. She is 27 pounds.
Oh, if you look for it it is everywhere. That is the lightness of being. No, it's not about the cute of paying for a stranger's groceries. It's more like really listening to the mea culpa of someone laid off and then reassuring them it wasn't all their fault. That heads them around to the positive.
