From "The Black Phone" to "Maggie" - America Embraces Mysticism

There’s that traumatic scene in the new film “The Black Phone.” With a belt the father beats his pre-teen daughter. She has dreams revealing information about the abductions in the town. He fears what he can’t understand. But it is her mystical gift, along with the mysticism associated with the black phone, that saves her brother’s life.

“The Black Phone” is doing well commercially and with the critics. That’s a sign pragmatic no-nonsense America is letting in what can’t be explained. But what is palpable.

Another sign is the new series created by Hulu. That’s “Maggie.” She’s a Gen Z psychic whose gift is way out in the open. All her friends know she has it. And she’s making a good living doing it. She even has her own retail space.

And I as a Tarot reader specializing in careers am not getting static from my communications clients. They don’t discern the two lines of work as mutually exclusive. Actually the sensitivity I use in Tarot readings enhances the creativity I need in marketing communications.
